Albany Pine Barrens


The Wild Lupine ( Lupinus Perennis ) is commonly associated with an open "pine barrens" type habitat and can be easily found in the Albany Pine Barrens. This species also plays host to the Endangered"Karner Blue Butterfly" ( Lycaeides melissa samuelis ) and is of utmost importance to the survival of the Karner Blue which depends on the lupine as its sole food source.


Here a group of lupines is found growing in close proximity with the "Pitch Pine" ( Pinus rigida ), and other native plants in the Albany Pine Barrens.
